How do you define Manufacturing Intelligence? How is it evolving in areas like automotive industry and tooling mould & die?

Manufacturing Intelligence is the next level of machine automation used in the manufacturing industry. The automotive industry constitutes a significant portion of the manufacturing sector as it involves a variety of manufacturing processes to produce different small parts and assemblies required to fit inside the vehicles, including engine components, plastic and sheet metal components. However, in Die & Mould, there is always a new product development cycle which helps create an opportunity for the industry to receive potential new businesses. Therefore, it is very important to check the manufacturing feasibility of every newly developed component/product. In both these industries, the adoption of Manufacturing Intelligence adds immense value to various manufacturing processes by analysing data at every stage and in return it helps bring out the products into the market, ahead of the competition, with better quality and enhanced lifecycle.

What are you strategising for welded products for the Indian market?

Welding is one of the most common joining processes in Indian manufacturing under which Resistance Spot Welding and Arc Welding are the most prominent. Welding process has many challenges associated with it. Hexagon, with its pioneering solutions, helps to develop the first time-right product and process design.

How can Additive Manufacturing revolutionise the Indian manufacturing sector?

Additive Manufacturing is one of the recent & most innovative ways of manufacturing a desired product as it adds the multiple layers of material one after the other instead of having to cut the material/layer which leads to a lot of material wastage. For machine manufacturers building machines in India, this will be a major game changer as cost of imported machines is way higher and manufacturers cannot afford this cost.

How does your company help optimise manufacturing quality?

The output of most manufacturing processes must pass through various quality checks and we, have all the appropriate solutions for measuring the quality parameters, right from the design engineering stage to production followed by quality & inspection which are all critical stages to ensure a product’s lasting performance. The Indian manufacturing industry has huge potential to serve the global market and become the global manufacturing hub. Also with Hexagon recently acquiring ETQ and its advanced data management capabilities driven by Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence; quality data is fully actionable and available further upstream.

Which are the key emerging trends in the industry and how are they beneficial for the Indian market?

As known to all, Industry 4.O is the emerging trend in the manufacturing industry. Connected shop floor machining centres and quality equipment, Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing), and building AI/ML capabilities in the operational systems are the next big things and will be the major drivers of a technological shift in the manufacturing industry. Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence has products that can help manufacturing companies get Industry 4.O enabled. Implementing Industry 4.O will be helping Indian companies to improve their operational effectiveness and in turn, improve their product life cycle and quality exponentially.
