You recently introduced the DEP MeshWorks 2020 platform. Could you tell us how it will address the current challenges and requirements in your target industry sectors?
MeshWorks 2020, with enhanced technology and modules, transforms the product development process across industry verticals. The appended modules enable CAE to take the lead role in the product development process with its unique combination of concept modelling, model reuse and bi-directional CAD/CAE associativity capabilities. With this latest version, we plan to drastically bring down go-to-market gestation period and bring up profitability. Organisations will benefit from the easy to migrate, increased productivity and engineers will find ease of use from the latest version.
With technologies in the automotive sector developing rapidly, how is your company improving to match the pace of development, and how are you working on compressing the product development cycle?
The automotive sector is facing a challenge in terms of pace of development, which means that the products have to be developed much faster. A beautiful advantage MeshWorks 2020 brings to the user is that we are able to quickly reconfigure the existing vehicle model to a future styling that the user would like to see. Another trend in the automotive sector that we recognise is that we are moving from the conventional powertrain driven vehicles to electric and here also, MeshWorks tools come in handy, whereby, one can efficiently convert his existing body structure to an electrified body structure. In an essence, our morphing and parameterisation tools are a great advantage for us to take the pace of development forward in the automotive sector.
There are noteworthy developments being made presently in EV/HEV domain. How is DEP contributing technology wise to accelerate electrification?
DEP has a very clear plan for electrification. We are looking at three things – the battery, the ability to look at how the control system really works and the motor that drives the wheel. Our software platform and solution suite are designed to address the battery challenges being faced today, the validation & evaluation of control strategies and lastly, how we look at the electromagnetic as well as NVH scenario associated with the motor. MeshWorks has the breadth and width to handle modelling and analysis needs from the battery all the way till the motor for electrification.
Currently Industry 4.0 is the buzzword. But Industry 5.0 is also becoming the topic of discussion now. How is Industry 5.0 shaping up and how could it help bring the best of the computing world and human participation?
Industry 4.0 was more about automation as an important part of the engineering cycle, where they were looking at engineering process and the automation was heavily computed on top of that. Industry 5.0 adds more value for the digital twin principle, which was designed in Industry 4.0. In Industry 5.0, the entire product clone of the digital twin will be much more exhaustive and numerical tools will enable the creation of digital twins. This digital twin creation will also generate a lot of data and will play a very critical role in providing design inputs. Creating a digital twin, which was almost thought as the end point in Industry 4.0, is actually a circumferential point in Industry 5.0.
Can you elaborate on the significance of this event series in India for DEP? How do you look at the potential for your business in India in the coming years and your future plans for DEP in India?
India is tightly integrated as part of the global community. Many leading global companies have their operations in India, contributing directly to new and future products they are building globally. India is definitely a key market focus for DEP. We started our product development wing in Chennai this year, from where we will be providing world-class product development services globally. Our MeshWorks 2020 launch in three cities in India has been very successful, with people very interested in the new capabilities of MeshWorks showcased, especially in modelling, process automation and ConceptWorks.
